Joe Pancaldi -

Prayer for family, friends and colleagues

Joe Pancaldi

Tributes have been paid to a climbing instructor who died while on holiday in the Highlands.

Joseph Pancaldi, 21, was found dead in the lower half of Raven Gully on Buachaille Etive Mor, last Saturday afternoon (12 July, 2008).

Ravens Gully

Mr Pancaldi, who was originally from Colchester, Essex, moved to Glenshee two years ago to work as a trainee instructor for the Compass Christian Centre at Glenshee Lodge, Perthshire.

Last night centre manager Ruth McBean described the religious young man as “inspirational, bright, joyful and compassionate”. She added that he “brought joy to so many people in his short lifetime”.

I had the pleasure of meeting and being instructed by Joe at the Compass Centre in Glenshee both in 2007 and in June 2008. He was and will remain an inspiration to me and in particular to my 13 year old son who would like to do work like Joe did. Joe was an exceptional individual and I'm sure that the seeds he sowed during his short life will grow in lots of different places and serve as a tribute to the hugely influentuial figure he was. God Bless you Joe, Heaven's gain is our loss.....

I only met Joe once when he came to Durris Church to be there during the young peoples service in June.
I was amazed at this enthusiastic and committed young man and was very upset to hear of his death.

Joe was our instructor twice on a Girls Brigade visit to Compass and the girls were inspired by him. He was a truly charming young man who you always felt was interested in what you had to say. We had great discussions about his love of musicals and sang our way round the ropes course! I have just heard the sad news on a visit to Blairgowrie and I know my girls will be very upset to hear this.

Joe will be greatly missed. We, as a youth group, go to the compass centre twice a year at least and he always remembered us, and would tell us stories about things we did last time we visited, even when we couldn't remember ourselves.
He was such a character and such a lovely guy.
I was very upset to hear of his death.
Compass will not be the same without him.

We were really saddened to hear of Joe's death and spent time with our teachers speaking about how he touched our lives - he got on well with everyone, encouraged us to do well and was always smiling. We discussed life in general at our Circle time and spoke about how we would like others to see us in our lives.

Charlotte: you were greatly loved by everyone at our youth group, you were one of those people who just brightened up our day. I will never forget the great times we all had. You were the first to teach me to ski which is something i always wanted to do. And its nice to think you shared with other people what you loved most. I'll never forget you. RIP Joe! xxxxxxx

Megan: no matter what it was we were doing both the years we came, you were always the person everybody wanted to be around. You always made me laugh especially that day at climbing and i won't ever forget all the things at glenshee that you taught us. Knowing that you won't be there the next time i go to glenshee will be like a sea without fish or a sky without birds. You always picked me up when i fell (mainly in skiing) and i will always do that to other people now that i've seen how much you meant to everyone even though i've only seen you for about 5 days. I'll always remember you, rip. xxxxxxx
