Selina Coray: My Testimony
Jacob Coray: My testimony
I never had a doubt that there is not a God, I always believed that there is a creator and the world didn’t just start with a “big bang”.
I was brought up in a Catholic home in Switzerland and been baptised as a baby.
Looking back over my childhood I have realised that the catholic church was empty and meaningless to me.
I never knew that I could have a relationship with God and have him as my personal saviour, as it says in John 6:40: that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have everlasting life.
Going to church was more a routine than a personal choice of seeking God. As you know going through teenage years, things of the world become interesting: you meet friends and start going out looking for acceptance and love. I always knew that there was something greater in this world to seek and satisfy my needs.
In December 2008 I met Peter in Switzerland for the first time. Our friendship grew into a relationship , but without meaning.
I only became aware of this when Peter asked me the following Summer in Scotland what the purpose of our relationship would be?
I was completely confused and my world was turned upside down. I couldn’t understand Peter and thought our relationship would end at this point, he than proceeded to tell me about God.
Over the next few days things started to become clearer to me. I realised that our relationship and my life was meaningless without God. I knew it was the truth and at that point I had to make a decision.
The next day I asked the Lord to come into my life and prayed with Esther, Peter's mum.
Back in Switzerland, I have been facing challenges telling my family and friends about my new faith in Christ. We attended a Bible study and since then steadily have grown in faith.
Since I have been back in Scotland, I have matured in my walk with God, and now feel it’s the right time to make this next step of faith.
Now I can see as it says in the Bible that 'all things work togheter for good to those who love God' (Romans 8:28).
I am 19 years old and I grew up in Switzerland where my family attended the Catholic church.
By this time I had a knowledge of God but I didn’t have a relationship with him.
Then 2 years ago I met Peter, a friend of my sister, at the Ski School in my home town in Switzerland.
A year ago I was given a bible by Peter and Selina because I was becoming interested in Christian things.
As I was reading Johns Gospel it became clear that I could only get to God through Jesus as the way, the truth and the life.
About a year ago I started attending a Bible study with Peter and Selina. As time went on I gave my life to Christ in January 2010.
Since then God worked in my life and gave me the understanding of the true purpose for living.
Now I know that I am significant, secure and accepted in Christ and that I don’t have to please the world anymore.
Then this last summer God intervened in my life and brought me to Scotland. Here I had the opportunity for teaching and fellowship which equipped me for my future life.
These things put the desire in my heart to seek the kingdom of God and to grow stronger with him every day.
Now: Why do I want to be baptised?
First of all it’s a command of God and as we read in the Acts of the Apostles it says: "believe and be baptized“! (Mark 16:16).
And so in response to the work of grace in my heart I want to make this public decleration that I am serious about my relationship to God.
At this point I would just like to share this verse which became important to me:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life“! (John 3:16)
