STV - Mondays and Fridays at 8.00pm

Vine Trust BoatAn exclusive new eight-part documentary series starts Monday 6th August on STV at 8.00pm; and follows a group of adventurers, pioneers and medical volunteers working on two ships in Amazonia, one of the most hostile regions on the planet.

The series focuses particularly on the Amazon Hope Medical project and the work of the Amazon Hope medical ships. The first of these ships, Amazon Hope 1, an ex- royal navy vessel, left Finnieston Quay in 2001 for Peru. Amazon Hope 2, the second medical ship arrived in Peru in 2006 after receiving a major refit courtesy of BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

Through a Christian commitment, the Vine Trust started as a local community response to the famine in Ethiopia and Sudan in 1985. Churches in Bo'ness, Scotland felt compelled to do something. We established "Branches", a small gift shop, staffed by volunteers, whose profits continue to be distributed to local and international causes <more..>

The poineer in this work is Rev. Willie MacPherson who left the Church of Scotland parish ministry in 2003 to work full-time as Executive Director of the Vine Trust.
