Prayer at the other end of the country

In a manner reminiscent of the vision given to Jean Darnall, Jim Smith writes to Christians Together about the ministry of intercession in East Sussex and issues a call to sustained prayer.

Something is happening in East Sussex

by (Rev.) Jim Smith
Our bedroom has a fabulous view, right across the valley to the South Downs of Sussex. I woke, early one morning, and got up to look at the view. There was an early morning light, the sun was just rising, and the Downs looked beautiful. Then I noticed, high up on the Downs, a very strong golden light. We do see this kind of thing sometimes, as the sun reflects off the windscreens of cars coming down into the valley. But I knew there was no road where I was looking.
I waited for the light to go away, but it continued to be very bright. ! I decided that I must be seeing the reflection of the sun on something, but the sun was just rising in the East - completely the wrong angle. I tried to explain it by a car (no road), a greenhouse (only sheep land there), and anything else I could think of. I knew it must be many miles away, yet it burnt so brightly. Twenty minutes had now passed, and I was puzzled. I turned round to wake my wife, so that she could come and look, but when I turned back, whatever it was had gone.
Later, one of our team, and she said, “You have just seen the beacon of the Spirit burning.” Had I? And if I had, what was I supposed to make of all this? The lamps vision and prophecy has to be understood against the background of the beacon. The Spirit is blazing
out. It is time for the lamps to put their lights on the lamp stands again.”
This experience was the beginning of “Where are the lamps.” Across Europe, and indeed across the world, the Lord is calling for his intercessors to begin deep and powerful intercession for what is happening, but where are they? So many intercessors have been pushed to one side, as God’s people have run after instant gratification, or projects and programmes that made them feel good, whole the needs of the world have been ignored or given very short attention.
The Lord needs his intercessors, and he needs them now. I have been teaching the “lamps” and in many places, I have been surprised at the positive response to this simple vision. “Lamps” is not a book, a ministry or an organisation. It is a simple call to those who intercede to come out into the open, get on their lampstands and shine more brightly than ever.  They are desperately needed.

Rev. Jim Smith has been an Anglican Minister for nearly 40 years. After his Parish ministry, he worked with the Church Pastoral Aid Society as an Evangelist, before setting up his prophetic ministry with his wife Mary.
