Has Sir Cliff lost the Christian plot?

Peter Carr (11/01/2012 20:56)

The TV (ITV 3) are celebrating 50 years of Sir Cliff Richard in show biz. But from a Christian perspective has this once ambassador for Christ lost the reality of the Christian faith, or is it simply another sad case of compromise?

It was revealed in the press (see below) that Sir Cliff and his sister have a suicide pact, and that he also supports gay marriage.

"'I have a death pact with my sister': Sir Cliff Richard reveals they have agreed suicide if they get dementia like their mother
'I don't want to be a burden on anybody else'

70-year-old singer backs gay marriages"

I always had respect for Cliff untilI I became aware of these two issues. Since they are both completely incompatible with the Bible, I no longer have any regard for him.

Perhaps he always felt that way and just managed to keep it hidden, I don't know, but he has now nailed his colours to the mast with these comments and will one day answer to God for them.

I was really disappointed to read about it. I respected him too - I always thought he maintained a valuable witness in a difficult milieu. I'd have been a fan, if it hadn't been for his music :-)

Is it the case (only asking,) that in too many cases the older some Christians get (like Cliff) the more likely they are to compromise, become less focused in the important aspects of God's word?

Cliff's antics on stage prove the man is more interested in his own ego and entertaining the world, than promoting the true gospel message...Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. if any man love the world , the love of the Father is not in him.For all that is in the world , the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life , is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof : but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever. 1st John 2:15-17.

Peter, you described Cliff Richard as being an Ambassador for Christ at one time. I have heard him professing that he is a Christian, that he has a faith in God etc., but never once have I heard him stating that he has received Christ as his Saviour or giving any basis or reason for his professed faith. Paul says to Timothy in his second letter that the Lord knows who belong to Him, but He also says that whoever names His name in calling Him Lord should depart from iniquity. Mat.7:21-23 is interesting. ( Page 1 of 4. Page 2 Page 3 Page 4)
