Engage! training in Inverness

Engage! -The National Certificate in Christian Youth Work - has been created by the Centre for Youth Ministry in order to meet the needs of a large number of people who are involved in youth work and who want to learn more about it. Please see http://www.centreforyouthministry.ac.uk/engage.html

Who is the Course for?

The Course is for individuals involved in Christian youth work in their spare-time, part-time, full-time or year-out. It seeks to enable them to learn the skills needed for working with young people both inside and outside the church. The course is for Churches and Christian agencies, for them to train their youth workers and youth leaders. The course is also for Trainers to use with their networks, where it can be delivered by approved tutors.

We recognise that it is important to help people into learning. Many people are put off by the idea of formal learning and an NVQ sounds like a nightmare. We want to provide an easy way in to learning which will encourage people and open up future possibilities for them.

Flexible Learning

Those who do not wish to undertake the full course may wish to come to a teaching day. Others may wish to come to a teaching day and use the workbook. There are separate prices for these and people can go on to become registered students if they then wish.

The following modules are being taught:-

5. CORE VALUES The essential elements of youth work and Christian ministry. The module includes equal opportunities, participation by young people, mission and vocation.

6. UNDERSTANDING LEARNING How do young people learn and how can we help them learn.

7. MANAGEMENT OF THE WORK AND OF SELF Looking after volunteers, church councils, others! Developing the youth work and structures for growth. Mission and Evangelism.

8. MODELS OF CHRISTIAN YOUTH WORK Working with the young people who come in to the church – worship, youth congregations, youth cells, mentoring, accompanying, discipleship etc. Working with young people in the community – detached, inclusion, schools, Advice & Guidance, Connexions, Evangelism and Mission.
