Christian Life

On whom and on what is our faith founded?

(This article was first published in November 2007)

The IndependentOn Tuesday 7 November 2007, the Independent newspaper  carried a piece on the front page -

A financial crisis that began in the US is coming to a home near you

As American banks admit the billion-dollar scale of their losses, Bank of England Governor warns that the worst is still to come in Britain.

A few weeks earlier, during the panic surrounding the "Northern Rock" crisis, I found myself writing a piece which has now been published in Sword - a Christian magazine. <Click here> to read it.

We live in a fragile and (sometimes) fearful world; and as God "shakes all things", we - as Christians - are put on our mettle. How we respond will bear testimony (or not) to where our faith and security is based.

Footnote: Sword is a Christian magazine published bimonthly. Its predecessor - Prophecy Today International - was published to take God's Word to our society. Sword's principle focus is to the church.

I have read the article in the Sword magazine (above), and it is pretty good.

I for a long time have said I think the US will not be the power it has been within the next 20 years. I have also said that I think they are out on a limb which could mean they are at more risk than other parts of the developed world!

Their world policies generally do not endear them to many but until now they have had the financial clout to be the only World Super Power. I think within our children's lifetime things may look very very different.

On a more general note, society (very sadly) does encourage all of us to only think of one person, ourselves, and encourages us to do anything that we want at any cost (normally paid for by credit) and that in itself creates huge problems down the line!!

Should we be surprised as to where it is all heading? The Bible clearly tells us how the end times will play out! Human greed has its limitations, the important thing for true Christians is not to be found in the same net!!

Professor Peter Spencer writes:"They still have another couple of months before this starts imploding. Things are very unstable and can move incredibly fast. I don't think the central banks are going to make a major policy error, but if they do, this could make 1929 look like a walk in the park."

Peak Oil could trigger meltdown in society - quote by the Energy Bulletin

The crisis which brought down Northern Rock and is affecting major banks in the US, the UK and beyond is seen a huge influx of Sovereign Wealth Funds (large sums from foreign governments and banks) to restore liquidity. And of course this leaves the banks which are struggling liable to takeover.
It is reported that "the global hubs of Islamic finance, have barely reported any subprime related losses" and "The subprime crisis could provide the Islamic banking industry with greater opportunity for growth, both from conventional retail customers looking for an alternative, and also from the collapse of Western asset prices."

-by Andrew Strom.

For many years we have been warning of a coming economic crash in America. And since 2006 we have been warning specifically of the HOUSING crisis - and the recession and depression that would follow. You will notice that everything we have been predicting is now coming true. In fact, a number of the most respected economists now state that the USA is already in Recession - beginning in December 2007. Sadly it is going to get much much worse.

I remember one place that I preached in 2006, predicting that there would be a housing crash followed by an economic depression. There was a man smirking and laughing down the back of the room. I guess that smirk may be missing now.

I want to get into "How to Survive" the coming Depression in a moment, but firstly I need to paint a picture of some of what is ahead. My strong belief is that, particularly in America, this crisis is going to be WORSE than the GREAT DEPRESSION. And it is going to last for YEARS. Other developed nations such as England, Ireland, Spain, Canada, Germany and even Australasia - are going to be very hard-hit also. China, India and much of Asia will be pounded at first, but I believe will recover faster. All of this is already underway.

How bad is it going to get? I believe that Christians in America need to face the fact that they are about to live through one of the WORST 5 - 7 year periods that this country has ever seen. -By far. And they need to be preparing NOW. We have not even seen the beginning of the worst of this crisis yet.

I know that there are people on this List who have heavy mortgages - who did not listen to me months ago when I started warning about the Housing crisis. Sadly some of these people are already staring down the barrel of losing everything they own. In fact, millions of American Christians are about to become utterly destitute. A lot of "innocent" and not-so-innocent people are going to get caught out by this. And many ministries that rely on "big money" are going to get crushed.

At the end of the day, this entire thing is a judgment on the great idol of Mammon in this country. God is going to bring that idol down. He is going to smash it to pieces, and separate His true gospel from that of the Mammonites in the church. And woe unto those who get caught under that avalanche when it falls.

Sadly, many poor and underprivileged people in this country are already being affected. We need to have a heart of compassion and be reaching out to these ones as things grow worse.

(By the way, speaking of avalanches, you may remember my warnings about "Derivatives" and the need to watch the "Insurers" of the markets. Already these areas are extremely shaky, and the danger of an "economic tsunami" is high).

There is only one type of Christian that I believe will survive - and maybe even thrive - during the coming Depression - and that is the Christian who is ministering actively to the POOR. It does not matter how much gold or US T-bills you store up. It is only "heavenly treasure" that will do. Do not expect to do well if you only selfishly consider yourself and your own family. Those who are ministering to the poor and needy I believe have a chance to literally THRIVE in this situation, while those who "hoard to themselves" can expect God's great displeasure. He is simply not going to put up with it any more.

The other thing that will make all the difference is a strong linking of arms with several others of LIKE MIND. This too is very important. If you are part of a home group, then this may be fairly easy to do. Talk to them about it. Come together in a strong bond of unity between, say, 4 families or individuals. But watch carefully how you choose. These relationships need to be able to survive a prolonged crisis. You may end up LIVING with these people (-very likely). And they need to be a good fit ministry-wise also.

These two things - (1) Linking arms with a small close-knit group of Christian believers, and (2) Ministering actively amongst the poor and needy - these two things will make all the difference. And we need to start doing this NOW. Don't wait until the crisis suddenly worsens. That may be too late. Start a "free meal" in your town. Do something! The hour is late.

I believe this is an opportunity for the true Church to come forth and display the Glory of Jesus in this nation - like a beacon set upon a hill. This crisis could be the Church's finest hour - if only we will heed His call. Let the true Church be the one to shine - not the Red Cross, not FEMA. May God's true remnant come forth in this hour to display His compassion and glory to all the earth. It could be the making of the American church - it really could.

Everything I am telling you in this email is so critical, I literally do not know how to stress it enough - it is that vital. There are going to be people who ignore what I am saying here who will literally regret it for the rest of their lives. No joke. You can mark it down.

Some ignored my warnings about the Housing market to their great cost. Others are going to ignore the two things that I am stressing most strongly here - (1) Banding together in small close-knit groups, and (2) Ministering to the poor. And it is going to cost them almost everything.

But this is all I can do - cry aloud and hope that some will listen.

Please pass this on to other Christians who hope to survive the coming crisis, my friends.

As the Federal Reserve and JPMorgan Chase combined to provide emergency finance for 85-year-old Bear Stearns and prevent further upheaval in global markets, it is interesting (if that's the word) to re-read the word given out by Stewart Dool (of Intercessors for Britain)in July 2007, when Northern Rock was just another name in the high street.....

To The Church And Nation of Britain

I am about to send fire upon you, the fire of My judgment, and it will consume on the right and on the left. All who have spurned My ways and My words will reap what they have sown, for in My burning anger I will judge the gods in whom you have put your trust, the gods of materialism and covetousness. The gold and the silver will be taken from you, and your portion will be emptiness, desolation and vanity.

I will bring the stability of your currency into doubt, to show you that it is I alone who caused you to prosper in the past. I raised you to prominence among the nations and gave you authority over many peoples: so you became rich, and boasted in your wealth, but I will bring you low, and the nations over whom you once ruled will say “What has happened to this great nation?”

As you have feared other gods, and not feared Me, so I will visit your deeds upon you. Your idolatries have led you astray, and you have become like those before whom you bow down. I commanded your fathers that they should not fear the gods of the nations, but you have not obeyed Me. Therefore I have given you into the hands of abominations and all manner of uncleanness.

Darkness will envelope those who have led my people into false light, for I will no longer forbear in my wrath. I will blind them, and they shall stumble in the perversity of their ways. Many shall follow them into darkness and be taken in the snare of the wicked, for they have loved to wander, and they have not watched the path of their feet.

My people give heed to those who prophesy a lie, and they delight in the teachers of falsehood. They run to those who steal from them by their destructive heresies, for they cannot discern the paths of righteousness. A wave of deception is about to break forth that will sweep many away, therefore take heed to yourselves, and cling to the word of My truth. I am bringing My Church to a time of testing, and I will search the hearts of all who call upon My name, and I will know those who are mine, and they shall know their God.

My displeasure will be visited upon your Government, for those who rule over you have become offensive to Me, as they have set aside My laws and My statutes, exalting the wicked and despising My holy name. You have not abhorred bloodshed, therefore the blood of your sons and daughters will lie in your streets, until you learn that as the cry of the unborn calls to me for vengeance, so I shall require it of you.

All these things I will do, because you have rejected Me, and thought that your own power could save you. Yet even now, if you will cry out to Me, and turn from your wickedness, I will spare. Nevertheless, I will chasten you in measure, and you shall know that I am the Lord. My beloved ones, the hour of My patience will not continue much longer. I call your therefore to seek my face with earnestness and zeal, that I may extend compassion to your land and people.

This prophetic word received by Stewart Dool (who heads up Intercessors for Britain) in the week 23-27 July 2007. It has been weighed and tested by others in senior positions of ministry.
