Salainn agus Solas (Salt & Light)

“Salainn agus Solas” is the inaugural South Skye and Lochalsh Public Christianity Conference. The aim of the conference is to help equip Christians for life in a sceptical age.

Kyleakin smallSaturday 29th January, 10am-3pm
Kyleakin Village Hall, Isle of Skye

SECULARISM
is presenting serious questions for all Christians, questions that cut to the heart of our reasons for hope. Following Peter’s teaching Christians should always be ready to give an answer to these questions.

The conference will give an overview of some Biblical Aspects of apologetics (the branch of theology to do with the defence and proofs of Christianity) and will touch on:

• Faith and/or Science
• Dealing with common objections
• Coffee Shop / Public Space Evangelism
• An overview of the New Atheism of Dawkins, Hitchens etc.
• Using Ecclesiastes evangelistically
• Persuasive Evangelism

The main speaker will be David Robertson, pastor and founder/chairman of Solas Centre for Public Christianity in Dundee. Solas CPC was set up in 2009, and aims to increase the message of the Gospel to culture. Distinctive in its strong evangelistic foundation of communicating the faith, it is intended to touch both the heart and the intellect of the thinkers and opinion-makers of society and to REACH and CHALLENGE those who shape the ideas of culture with the credibility of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The conference will be followed by 4 weeks of “apologetic” preaching, in five of the local South Skye and Lochalsh churches, aimed at helping equip the Church in responding to tough questions. The themes of this preaching series will be:

• Science – Has science disproved the Bible?
• Spirituality – Is Jesus the only way?
• Suffering – Why does God allow suffering?
• Life – What the point?

Tea & Coffee and lunch will be provided. There will be a free will offering taken up to defray costs.
