Highland Christian Radio update

18 May 2007

Radio mastAs most know by now, our initial application with OFCOM for an FM community radio license has been rejected.  OFCOM indicated their decision is based on the following assessment or our application:

Strengths:
  • The target audience is well-defined
  • HCR does not conflict with any existing or proposed stations/programming
  • OFCOM acknowledges potential social gains of such a station
  • Inverness has many available FM frequencies

Deficiencies:
  • Insufficient evidence of quantifying "specific" social gains
  • Insufficient written support from local community organisations
  • Insufficient evidence of broadcasting experience and/or training
  • Insufficient evidence of broad range of funding

Again, this is only a summary of the major points of the feedback OFCOM has provided.  We are committed to prayerful long-term pursuance of obtaining a broadcast license from OFCOM, as the Lord leads us.  Therefore, we hope to regroup and submit another application when and if OFCOM decides to accept future applications.

In the meantime, we plan to continue working on the deficiencies of our initial application.  I believe we can address the issues raised by OFCOM, if we are able to:

1.  Quantify evidence of social gains
2.  Obtain written letters of support from local churches, organisations, and individuals 3.  Recruit local community volunteers who have broadcast experience and/or training 4.  Broaden the range of proposed funding (no more than 50% from one source)

If you share the vision to see a full-time FM Christian radio station established in Inverness, please feel free to contact us.

In the meantime, you can listen to similar programming on Sky channel 0156, or visit the internet link: http://www.calvarychapelradio.co.uk/default.asp
